Some quick facts about Fiano!

Fiano is one of the classic white grapes from Southern Italy. Unsurprisingly, the finest expression of this fruity grape can be found in the Campania region around the city of Naples. And is often found in the vineyards there with Greco, another popular white grape. Of course, the grape has captured the attention of wine growers around the world and it is now grown even on the other side of the globe in Australia.

The grape’s home though, is and will always be on the slopes Avellino to the East of Napoli.

It is a great alternative for wine such as sauvignon blanc, pinot gris, verdelho and viognier.

What does it taste like …

This white wine is often perfumed with floral note and fruity tones of pear, melon and pineapple, almonds and honey. It can produce rich and off dry styles as well as zesty and refreshingly crisp and dry wines. And it is a great blender too so don’t be surprised to find versions such as Vigneti del Vulture Pipoli. Here it is blended with Greco.

It is usually unoaked to maintain that fresh fruit.

Something you didn’t know!

Legends from Roman times has it that the ripe and sweet berries of this grape are excellent at attracting bees!

What to pair this white wine with….

Fiano wines often have a richer texture which suits more robust flavours.

Enjoy this wine with seafood such as some grilled scallops or a baked fish served with fresh herbs or a butter and flaked almond sauce. Chicken & haloumi, grilled vegetables are especially good too. Also some soft bloomy cheese such as Camembert or Brie and fresh cheese such as goats cheese.
