About this wine
Quinta do Crasto is a family run wine estate in the Douro region of Portugal, a region that until recently was known solely for their Port wines. This is one of the many excellent red wines that are now such a part of the region’s diverse offerings. The current family owners, the Roquette family, have cared for these vineyards from other a century. The name Crasto means ‘Roman Fort’.
The port is a traditionally made wine where the grapes were food trodden in a lagar and then stored in large oak barrels for 4 years before bottling.
Tasting note
This is a deeply coloured port that is ready for drinking now. It has wild blackberry and chocolate notes. The tannins are finely tuned and flesh out the mouthfeel. As it is unfiltered, it will last a few years in the cellar.
Food pairing suggestions
Enjoy with chocolate desserts and mature cheese and blue cheeses.
