About this wine
It all started with a parcel of vines. When Louis-Henri Jadot purchased the Beaune Premier Cru Clos des Ursules in 1826 the story of Maison Louis Jadot began. One of his key aims, as well as to make top wines, was to build a significant vineyard base. This vision remains core to the business today.
Louis Jadot’s philosophy in the vineyard and in the winery is one of minimal intervention. For the past 20 years Louis Jadot has banished the use of all synthetic products (fertilisers, herbicides etc) on their own vineyard soils, applying traditional practices instead. All work is done either by tractor, or for the more inaccessible sites, by horse.
Fleurie is one of the 10 crus of Beaujolais. A village located between Moulin-à-Vent and Chiroubles. A portion of this wine is vinified traditionally with destemmed grapes and a portion with full grapes. Aging usually lasts 10 to 12 months either in stainless steel vats or in bigger casks (foudres).
Tasting note
Fleurie is surely the most popular Cru and this wine shows why with its seductive, drinkable style. A medium bodied red, full of succulent ripe raspberry and cherry fruit, this is supple, silky and fresh. Some time in oak has enhanced the complexity and structure.
Food pairing suggestions
Beef carpaccio, chili con carne, pizzas, BBQ grilled meat, teriyaki chicken, hamburgers, andouillettes, black pudding, vegetable or meat lasagne, ratatouille, hard cheese.
