Our featured wine of the month for December is the Martin Codax Sparkling Albarino!

Bodegas Martin Codax is actually a co-operative winery in Rias Baixas DO, which is a region in Spain growing quickly in popularity in the UK. The wine making team there has become known for their expertise for the main white grape of the region, Albarino and make several versions of wine from that grape.

The Martin Codax Espumoso Albarino is a traditionally made sparkling wine. This means that it is made in the same method that Champagne is made. Therefore, this Espumoso has all the hallmarks of a Champagne, such as that notable creaminess, but offers a delightful difference. Particularly for Albarino lovers, of which there are many! This also sets this wine apart from the majority of Prosecco which is made without the time and attention that the traditional method demands.

This style of sparkling wine is unusual in that it is 100% Albarino and it is one of the growing number of Spanish sparkling styles that are not under the ‘Cava’ label. You will see many more of these over the coming years. Just as you will see much more diversity within the Cava category itself. The Martin Codax Espumoso Albarino is a fizz that wins hearts with its freshness and its elegance every time that we pour it. It is just that more-ish!

About the Codax Sparkling Albarino:

A dry white sparkling wine with characters of pastry, cream, lemon and some underlaying herbaceous notes. There is some creaminess to the palate it is rounded and fuller with excellent balance.

Serving suggestions:

This wine is good to enjoy without food too. However, it will be an excellent choice for parties and Festive events. Good to go with appetisers, seafood, fish, fresh cheeses and salads.
