Featured Wine of The Month – Pikes Luccio Novello

A chilled choice of red!

Our featured wine of the month for August is the Pikes Luccio Novello

The Pike family have been producing authentic, handcrafted beverages in South Australia since 1886. Pikes Beer was first sold in 1886, followed by soft drinks and cordials from 1940, then Pikes wine from 1985 and beer again from 1996. Pikes is a well known name amongst the world’s riesling lovers. It has several outstanding riesling wines in their offerings, and their vineyards are considered world class.

This is a lush red blend of the native Italian red grapes Montepulciano and Nero d’Avola. Both of these grape varieties are relatively new to Australian vineyards but here they are blended and shaped into a wine style reminiscent of France’s famed Beaujolais wines. Fresh and with just enough tannins to gently shape the wine and allow it to be served lightly chilled.

This is a wine that is all about the fruit. It is made in stainless steel to preserve the fruit while also carefully managing the tannins. The result is delicious.

This is a great alternative to the usual rose and whites that we often choose for summer!

Did you know! Pikes also do an outstanding white also from a classic Italian white grape variety…

About the Pikes Luccio Novello:

This is a gorgeously purple ruby hued wine. It is light to medium bodied and it is fragrant with fresh red fruits, plums and cranberries, with some floral notes. The tannins are soft and are merely there to gently shape the wine and leave the fruit to shine.

Serving suggestions:

Serve lightly chilled or you can serve it at the same temperature as you would any other red wine. It is purely your choice.  This wine is good to enjoy without food too, particularly on a warm day.

However, it is a great accompaniment to an antipasto platter particularly with charcuterie. Or you can enjoy it with bangers and mash or a burger with beetroot.

This was one of our new wines for this summer and is available for £15.99.
